Pitfalls of used vehicle purchasing

Well we have all heard the horror stories of puchasing a used car , such as purchasing that shiny dream car only to find it was stolen or still under finance.
Finding that you have purchased a lemon can also be costly.
There are ways to minimise the risk.
Use of the vehicle securities register or other govenment run sites in your
state to check for oustanding finance and legitimate registration.
It would also be worth noting a pre puchase vehicle inspection by a recognised motoring body
is a worthwhile step to take in your purchase plan.
Let us know of your thoughts on this subject.
Are you totally protected by making your puchase through a licencesed motor vehicle trader ?
Also share with us your horror stories in the hope others don't get caught out by similar issues or scams.

Safety Versus Price

A few years ago motoring jounalists wrote that safety doesn't sell new cars. Is price the only determing factor when negotiating your purchase?

V8 Supercars - Relevant ?

With the imense popularity of V8 Supercar racing the question needs to be asked, as to weather they really are relavent in todays climate of high fuel costs and the wholesale changing of the guard to smaller more fuel efficient cars. Longtime sales leader the Holden Commodore is no longer the number 1 selling car, although this is likely to change with the release of the superb new VE Commodore. We would like to hear your thoughts on this issue, do you see motor racing as relevant to your motoring or as purely a form of entertainment?

Four Wheel Drives in the suburbs

There appears to be an increasing call for large 4WD's to be banned from the suburbs. Is this a realistic approach to the current congestion and safety concerns ?
Would love to hear your comments.

Speed Cameras (revenue raisers or safety devices)

Do you believe that speed cameras are reducing the road toll or are they only there to raise revenue.
